Darrin's Story - Night to Shine

Tim Tebow's Night to Shine Prom is one of Vibrant's favorite events! 2024 will celebrate 10 years of Night to Shine and Vibrant has hosted it every year since it started in 2014. This event blesses every person involved from guests to volunteers!

Check out Darrin's story of volunteering at Night to Shine this past February:

"I really wanted to highlight two particular and encouraging things that happened at Night to Shine Prom. Let me just say that the experience was amazing, especially having it be my first time to volunteer, and to do so with my family made it even better.

The first experience that highlighted my night happened during traffic directing, something so simple and easy, but nonetheless allowed me to interact with our guests. A woman who I had never met before arrived as a volunteer to be a buddy. Her daughter, who was a special needs guest, came with her but was unable to enter because of waiting for the 6:30 entry time. This woman asked me to supervise her daughter while she waited in the car. I had no issue doing it, but I was certainly pondering why she asked a complete stranger to do this, to put her daughter's safety in my hands after just meeting me.

It showed me that Vibrant is a place where anyone, stranger or friend, can go to and feel safe and secure. She did not think twice about trusting me because of my association with Vibrant. I even had a chance to escort her down the red carpet into the church, which felt special, and allowed me to fulfill my "duty" of making sure she entered the facility safely.

The second experience I had came after finishing my obligation as a parking attendant. I walked inside the auditorium and saw everyone having a great time. I expected nothing less after hearing about previous years. Shortly after, my father informed me that "Shea" was there as a guest. I was confused but then it finally rung a bell, it was my lifelong neighbor from growing up at my parents house in Harrisburg.

My brother and I would play with him so much as kids, and to see him all these years later after we had moved out and moved on was such a blessing. Shea has been doing this for a few years now, but we never knew until seeing him. He was so happy to see my family and I, but the smile on his face, him remembering our names after all this time, and just the ability to interact with him made the night memorable for me.

We had no idea who we would see, and Shea seeing us certainly helped him to maximize his experience. He reiterated his love for Spiderman and Avatar, something we always talked about as kids, as well as making sure he stayed out of trouble, which drew a heartwarming yet devious smile from his face. Needless to say, I am thankful for Vibrant for doing this, and for being able to provide for a forgotten community of people who are loved by God just as much as everyone else. Praise and Glory be to God. Amen."
